Research Trip September / October 2006 - Summary

Landing Houses Job Search Day Care

Well this is the one we've been waiting for. This is our landing trip. There are 4 main aims of this trip......

  • To land as permanent Residents (and in doing so to activate our visas). To confirm that this is REALLY what we want to do - the last time we were in Calgary was before children so we need to look at it from the point of view of parents.
  • To confirm where in Calgary (or surrounding area) we want to live and to research houses, nurseries, schools etc. in that chosen area.

  • To get a job for Steve.

  • And (last but not least) to look into day care facilities for infants and toddlers.

In summary it was a good trip. We got a lot out of our time there but we did feel as though we wasted some of our time. This was because our main focus before the trip was relating to Steve and job hunting. As such most of the planning had been around that. Steve had set up meetings for most of the first week and left the second week free for follow-up and meet meetings if required. As this fell apart a little bit (see the job search link) we were left a bit at a loose end until we managed to regroup and move forward on other fronts.
